Learning to love your body

Love your body! Okay…but what if I don’t? You probably see spread all over  social media, “just love your body!” Especially as influencers are starting to popularize their version of the body positivity movement

I definitely think loving your body is significant and a great goal to strive for. However, I’m not going to tell anyone what they “should” do. Maybe you’re in the camp of I want to love my body, but I just don’t right now. That’s not wrong! You definitely don’t need to feel guilty if that’s how you’re feeling. You can’t just flip a switch and automatically love the way you look. Especially if society has constantly been telling you that you should hate your body just because it doesn’t meet current beauty standards.

If you want to work towards loving your body, try starting with body neutrality.

While body positivity is the concept of constantly loving your body no matter the size, body neutrality does not focus on physical attributes. With body neutrality you acknowledge that your body is neutral, not good or bad, it just is. Instead of focusing on your physical size, you celebrate what your body can do. Your body is the home for your amazing self and all that you are!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, show yourself some love! If that doesn’t seem attainable right now, don’t beat yourself up. Learning to love your body is a journey. Instead of focusing on looks, try listing five things you are grateful your body can do.

EXAMPLE - I’m grateful my body can…

  • Take me snowshoeing with my family.❄

  • Swim with my friends. (thinking of warming weather🌞)

  • House my amazing mind!🧠

  • Birth human beings (insane!)🤱

  • Do activities I love (dance, rock climb, craft)🧗‍♀️

  • Care for the people around me 👫

Make a list of your own! Post it on your bathroom mirror or share on social media and tag me @jordanbhealthy. I can’t wait to see your list!

I hope this helps start you on the path toward loving your body or at least being a little kinder to yourself. It’s a challenging journey, but so worth it. I encourage you to keep putting in the work.
